Dallas-Fort Worth Airport to Install Muslim Foot Wash Stations in Restrooms
Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is planning to add Islamic foot-washing, or Wudu ablution, stations to restrooms in Terminal D. The project was registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation on July 31, according to state documents. The plans call for one ablution station in an existing men’s restroom and one in an existing women’s restroom on the terminal’s concourse level. The stations are expected to be completed by the end of the year. Documents list the project as privately funded, with an estimated cost of about $300,000. The airport upgrades are intended to provide low-level basins for foot washing, helping prevent water from collecting on restroom floors and protecting standard sink counters. Similar facilities and interfaith spaces are already available at some other large U.S. airport hubs, including Chicago O’Hare, according to the report. The proposal prompted mixed reactions online. Some conservative critics objected to the plan, while others argued that it should be viewed as a practical restroom-management measure rather than an ideological issue. Conservative activist Ryan Fournier said dedicated basins could help keep bathrooms dry, reduce slipping risks and avoid damage to counters. Fox News Digital said it sought comment from the Texas licensing agency, Gov. Greg Abbott’s office and DFW Airport. The project matters to Dallas because DFW is a major international gateway for the region. The planned stations could affect how Terminal D serves passengers while addressing cleanliness and safety concerns in heavily used airport restrooms.
