TAIWANfest Brings Taiwan-Canada Cultural Events to Vancouver
TAIWANfest will return to Vancouver from September 5 to 7, 2026, with a program of cultural events connecting Taiwan, Canada and international audiences. This year’s theme, “Islands in the Wind,” explores islands as places shaped by movement, exchange, memory, air and water rather than isolation. The festival will take place across several Vancouver venues, including šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énk Square north of the Vancouver Art Gallery, Granville Street, the Vancouver Playhouse, ANNEX and the Vancouver Public Library. Its schedule includes live performances, culinary programming, workshops, exhibitions and an artist market. Among the listed highlights is the opening event, *When the Mountains Sing*, at the Vancouver Playhouse on September 5. From September 5 to 7, visitors can attend the Collective Island workshop and see *The Red Brick Era of Northern Taiwan* exhibition at the 600 block of Granville Street. An artist market will also run throughout the festival at šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énk Square. Admission to TAIWANfest is free, allowing residents and visitors to take part in its range of activities across downtown Vancouver. The festival presents cultural sharing through arts, food and public programming while examining how cultures travel, change and establish roots across distance. For Vancouver, the event is relevant because it brings a multi-day cultural program into prominent public venues and offers free opportunities to engage with Taiwanese culture and wider international exchange.
