A new studio and events venue is opening in Alexandria, in inner Sydney, from the team behind AV1 and Sprintr. Called INTERLUDE, the space is at 23 McCauley Street. Keith Wootton, founder of FSTVL GRP, has signed the lease. His group is also behind All Things All Creatures. Wootton describes INTERLUDE as a space between a boardroom and a ballroom. Its main room is a flexible white box measuring 14.5 by 7.9 metres, with a 5.7-metre ceiling. The venue also has an arrival area for guests and an exterior courtyard, giving it room to accommodate different kinds of gatherings. The concept draws on Wootton’s early career working with artists at The Factory, a creative hub in Dublin. He intends commercial bookings to help support use of the Sydney space by artists and other creatives, so clients and creators can share it. INTERLUDE is designed to work as an events venue, studio, gallery or place for creative development. Wootton says the idea also reflects a move towards smaller, more intimate community gatherings. After more than 30 years in the events industry, he wanted a room that did not fit the usual boardroom or ballroom model. INTERLUDE will hold informal previews for invited guests in mid-November.
