Madrid Plans Generation of ’27 Centenary Events, Milla Canal and Three Tourism Hubs for 2027

The Madrid regional government plans a programme in 2027 to mark the centenary of the Generation of ’27. Called “27 Generación Velintonia,” it will coincide with the full restoration of Velintonia, poet Vicente Aleixandre’s house in the capital, which the region bought in 2025 and plans to turn into a House of Poetry. More than €1.5 million is earmarked for the programme. The year also marks the 50th anniversary of Aleixandre’s Nobel Prize in Literature. The proposals appear in the regional government’s draft 2027 budget, which allocates €314.3 million to culture, tourism and sport, a 5.1% increase from 2026. Funding for music, performing arts and visual arts would rise by more than €3 million, including additional support for the regional theatre network and performing arts grants. Planned spending on cultural infrastructure includes €2.5 million for sites such as the Pilar Miró Cultural Centre in Vallecas and Teatros del Canal in Chamberí. The tourism budget would grow by €4.5 million, with €1 million assigned to three Tourism Innovation Centres in Las Vegas, Sierra Oeste and Sierra Norte. Staff at the centres would work with residents and local businesses on rural tourism activities. The Milla Canal project would receive €7.5 million to advance the transformation of an urban area in the capital for sport, culture and leisure.
