Art at Barker Hangar starts the festivities on Thursday; film, books and live music follow across Los Angeles from September 25 to 27. The Other Art Fair brings work by more than 160 independent artists to Santa Monica, alongside installations and DJ sets. Thursday’s opening night costs $60, and tickets are $25 from Friday through Sunday. The Hola México Film Festival opens its 18th edition Friday, with screenings at venues including The Montalbán Theatre through October 3. Friday evening’s free options include disco lessons and dancing at Burton Chace Park and an outdoor screening of *E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial* at Ivy Station, where free popcorn and a secure bike valet will be available. On Saturday, the free Los Angeles Libros Festival fills Central Library with bilingual storytelling, author talks, music and workshops from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A LATINAFest pop-up at the Wilshire and Fairfax Metro station will feature Ballet Folklórico, poetry and children’s author signings. At the East LA Civic Center, Chicano surf punk and indie-rock acts will close the September Encore Series with a free concert. The Watts Towers Day of the Drum and Jazz festivals are also on the weekend lineup. Saturday’s annual block party at the Autry Museum takes “Love Letters to L.A.” as its theme, with live performances, classic cars, games and a Ferris wheel. General admission is $4.75, the museum’s 1988 opening-day price.
