Houston Energy, Climate and AI Events to Watch in September 2026
Houston’s September business and innovation calendar is centered on two major themes: the energy transition and artificial intelligence. The month includes networking sessions, leadership discussions and industry events designed for founders, investors, corporate leaders, researchers and students. Many programs will take place at the Ion and across the Ion District. Early events focus on entrepreneurship and AI. Open Houston and the Ion will host a roundtable featuring Faisal Bhutto of Alykas, while the Houston AI Club and its partners will convene local AI leaders for a panel and networking session. Another Ion event will examine how CEOs, venture capital firms and private equity investors can turn AI investments into business value through stronger governance, ownership and accountability. Houston Energy and Climate Startup Week, running September 14–18, returns for its third year with panels, pitch days, happy hours and a kickoff block party. Key events include the Activate Houston Cohort gathering, the Cypher Pilotathon and Startup Showcase at POST Houston, Greentown Labs’ Climatetech Summit, and the Rice Alliance Energy Tech Venture Forum. AI’s healthcare applications will also be in focus through Rice University’s AI in Health Conference and a Houston Methodist Innovation Discussion on the health system’s strategy, AI adoption and scaling new ideas.
