Things to Do in Dallas This Weekend, Sept. 24–27: State Fair of Texas and More

The State Fair of Texas leads a busy Dallas-area weekend, opening Friday, September 25, for a 24-day run at Fair Park. Visitors can expect rides, butter sculptures, fried food, a midway, an auto show and strolling entertainers. Daily concerts will include artists such as Clint Black, Queensrÿche, Deep Blue Something, Tripping Daisy and Toadies. Dallas has other options throughout the weekend. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra performs Rimsky-Korsakov’s *Scheherazade* on Thursday and Sunday at the Meyerson Symphony Center, alongside works by Arturo Márquez and Alberto Ginastera. YouTubers Dan and Phil bring their Hard Launch World Tour to the Music Hall at Fair Park on Thursday. On Saturday, Cara Mía Theatre begins its two-week Latinidades Festival & Symposium at the Latino Cultural Center, with theater, dance, music, visual art and spoken-word poetry. Across the wider area, McKinney Oktoberfest runs through Sunday, while Opera Arlington presents an Oz-inspired staging of Mozart’s *The Magic Flute* on Friday and Saturday. The Savannah Bananas make their Globe Life Field debut in a three-game series against the Texas Tailgaters, playing their fast-paced “Banana Ball.” Haunted attractions also begin opening in Garland, Waxahachie and Lewisville. The longest-running event is back in Dallas: the State Fair continues at Fair Park through October 18.
