Dallas Black Dance Theatre Celebrates 50 Years in 2026-27 Anniversary Season

Dallas Black Dance Theatre will mark its 50th anniversary with “50 Years in Motion,” its 2026–27 season. Founded in 1976, DBDT is Dallas’s oldest continuously operating professional dance company. Its mission includes serving the community and encouraging minority youth to see dance as an art form and a possible career. The three-program home series begins with GENESIS at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre on November 6–7, revisiting works from DBDT’s early years. INHERITANCE brings works passed on to a new generation of dancers to the same theater February 12–14, with a 50th-anniversary gala scheduled there for February 13. The series closes with UNCHARTED at the Wyly Theatre on May 14–15, 2027, DBDT’s first program devoted exclusively to world premieres. Elsewhere in Dallas, free, hour-long Behind The Scenes programs take place at DBDT Studios on November 23–24. Black On Black features dancer-choreographed works at the studios on December 4–5, followed by the Dallas Black Dance Academy’s Espresso Nutcracker at the Majestic Theatre on December 12. DBDT: Encore presents Rising Excellence at Moody Performance Hall on April 16–17. Tickets for the season are on sale.
