Freedom Summer 2.0 Brings Avery Wilson and Victory Boyd to Dallas

Freedom Summer 2.0 arrives in Dallas on September 18 and 19 with two days of live music, civic engagement and community training. Presented by the Black Faith Coalition, the program links cultural experiences with voter participation, advocacy and local organizing. Friday, September 18, begins at House of Blues Dallas with the Freedom Social from 6 to 7 p.m., featuring signature cocktails, light bites and opportunities to connect before the music starts. From 7 to 10 p.m., R&B and soul artists Avery Wilson, Victory Boyd, Marium Echo and CAMP will perform, with CAMP also co-hosting the evening. Voter registration will be available on-site. Organizers frame the event as a gathering that uses music and community connection to invite more people into civic participation. Its “Welcome Home” message is intended to create an inclusive space for attendees who may not already identify as activists or organizers. The initiative takes inspiration from Freedom Summer in 1964, when civil rights workers and local organizers in Mississippi mobilized around voting rights and political participation. Saturday, September 19, shifts to Paul Quinn College for community-focused sessions and training from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Programming will address faith and justice, advocacy and public policy, grassroots organizing and youth engagement at Paul Quinn College, 3837 Simpson Stuart Road.
