9 Atlanta Arts and Culture Events This Weekend

Atlanta’s arts calendar for October 15–18 ranges from restored films and jazz to exhibitions and Halloween celebrations. At the Plaza Theatre, a 4K restoration of the director’s cut of Ken Russell’s 1971 film *The Devils* opens October 15, with screenings through October 20. The Southwest Arts Center hosts a conversation about Jessye Norman and Black women in opera on October 15, alongside an exhibition about the Augusta-born soprano that runs through November 8. On October 16 and 17, Atlanta trumpeter Russell Gunn celebrates his new album with two sets each night at The Velvet Note in Alpharetta. Cat Eye Creative opens *Afterglow*, a group exhibition, with an October 16 reception; the show remains on view through November 1. The Plaza Theatre returns to horror on October 17 with an overnight marathon of five films, all kept secret until screening time. The Tara Theatre begins 25th-anniversary screenings of Hayao Miyazaki’s *Spirited Away* the same day. Outside the city, the Stone Mountain Highland Games bring pipe bands, Scottish athletics and Highland dancing to Stone Mountain Park on October 17 and 18. On October 18, Symphony Hall hosts a screening of *The Rocky Horror Picture Show* with original cast members Barry Bostwick and Nell Campbell, a live shadow cast and audience-participation props. Little Five Points’ two-day Halloween festival runs from noon to 7 p.m. on October 17 and 18, with more than 100 artists and vendors. Its annual parade begins at 1 p.m. Sunday.
