San Francisco September Tourism Boosted by Oktoberfest and Castro Night Market
San Francisco will host two free festivals on September 18, 2026, filling Downtown and the Castro with distinct food, music and nightlife programmes. Oktoberfest on Front runs from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Front Street Entertainment Zone, while the Castro Night Market takes place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. around 18th Street and Castro. Oktoberfest on Front requires a free RSVP and will feature Bavarian polka, yodelling, party music, games, stein-holding contests, German-inspired food and more than 70 beers at participating Front Street businesses. The event welcomes all ages; alcohol service is available to visitors aged 21 and over with valid identification. California’s first Entertainment Zone, Front Street hosted 15 events and drew 46,300 attendees in its first year. No attendance forecast has been released for the 2026 Oktoberfest. The Castro Night Market will bring together local food vendors, merchants and live entertainment as part of its recurring third-Friday programme, which also includes artists, DJs, performances and craft vendors. Travel may be more complicated across the city that day: Route 33 will be rerouted near the Castro event, and the 24 and 35 lines could face delays. An Ocean Avenue night market, a Golden State Valkyries game at Chase Center and a scheduled northbound US 101 closure will add to transport pressure. In the Castro, 18th Street between Hartford and Collingwood will close from 11 a.m. Friday until 1 a.m. Saturday.
