Future of Us Civic Imagination Festival Debuts in San Francisco
San Francisco’s inaugural Future of Us Civic Imagination Festival ran from July 4 to July 12, 2026, aligning its 10-day citywide program with the United States’ 250th birthday. Through art, science, storytelling, technology and community organizing, the festival considered how residents could shape civic life amid rapid change. The Pearl in Dogpatch served as the central hub, alongside programming at SFMOMA, Gray Area, Pier 70, Fort Mason and neighborhood centers. More than 20 partner organizations collaborated on the initiative, organizers said, producing over 50 events designed and led by more than 30 Future Culture Fellows. Performances, workshops and interactive installations were grouped under Green Futures, Social Futures, Science & Tech Futures, and Media Futures. SFMOMA hosted Future of Us activities from July 9 to 11, including an Art & Tech Core Session and a Future Photobooth. The Plenary, Co. stewarded the festival, with Nothin But Hits overseeing music programming and additional partners shaping activations. Future of Us formed the middle section of a three-part initiative. The Visions, a nationwide listening and speculative-storytelling tour, gathered more than 1,000 community reflections ahead of the festival. The Festival brought those ideas into public programming, while The Collective is intended to create an ongoing coalition of Bay Area civic builders and creatives. The July 12 conclusion left behind a public archive of community visions and a roadmap for continued collaboration.
