Mamdani Offers 1,000 Discounted U.S. Open Tickets to NYC Residents
New York City residents will have access to 1,000 discounted tickets for the 2026 U.S. Open under an initiative announced by Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the United States Tennis Association. The tickets will go on sale Wednesday at 10 a.m. ET through the U.S. Open’s NYC ticket portal. Eligible residents can buy up to two tickets at $100 each for main-draw matches scheduled from Aug. 30 through Sept. 8. The offer includes seats at Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium, as well as grounds passes. The tournament itself will run at Flushing Meadows from Aug. 30 through Sept. 13. Mamdani said the program is intended to make a major international sporting event more affordable for city residents, who can often face high prices for high-profile games and competitions. He linked the effort to earlier city-backed initiatives aimed at widening access to sporting events, including free tickets for the Knicks championship ceremony at City Hall and a low-cost World Cup ticket lottery for New Yorkers. The 2026 U.S. Open will offer a record $108 million in total player compensation, with the men’s and women’s singles champions each receiving $5.5 million. The announcement is relevant for New York because the U.S. Open is one of the city’s biggest annual sports events and takes place in Queens. The discounted allocation gives some residents a lower-cost way to attend matches at Flushing Meadows.
