Korean Cultural Center New York Hosts Inaugural Korean Independent Film Festival Oct. 15–25
The Korean Cultural Center New York is holding the first New York Korean Independent Film Festival from October 15 to 25, 2026, at its theater in Manhattan. The program features 10 feature films and five shorts, with 12 directors and other film professionals expected in New York for post-screening conversations with audiences. Developed with five Korean film festivals, the lineup spans drama, documentary, science fiction, thriller and action. Organizers say the event is intended to give Korean independent films more opportunities to screen abroad and connect their makers with New York’s film community. The selection includes work associated with the Seoul Independent Film Festival, Jeonju International Film Festival and Muju Film Festival. The festival opens with Kam Jeongwon’s *Stars and Sand*, which won the Grand Prize at the 51st Seoul Independent Film Festival. Kam and cinematographer Choi Chang Hwan will take part in a Q&A after the screening, followed by a networking reception. The closing film is Yoon Ga-eun’s *The World of Love*. Other features include *The Glimmering* and *Karma*, whose directors are also scheduled to meet audiences. A separate section presents five award-winning shorts from Korea’s Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival, with visiting filmmakers attending audience discussions. All screenings take place at the Korean Cultural Center New York Theater on East 32nd Street. Admission is free, but advance registration is required.
