Miami Emerges as a Global Sports, Tourism and Luxury Investment Hub

Miami is emerging as a global center for luxury, business, sports and travel. Long associated with resort tourism, the city is drawing multibillion-dollar investment, prominent residents, startups and major companies. Pirelli North America has secured sponsorships at the Miami Open and Formula 1 Grand Prix as part of its U.S. expansion. Miami’s cultural calendar also includes Art Basel, the Miami International Boat Show and the South Beach Wine & Food Festival. Together, these events helped produce a record $22.7 billion in tourism revenue last year, alongside an unprecedented wave of ultra-luxury development reshaping the skyline. The 100-story Waldorf Astoria Hotel & Residences in downtown Miami is expected to open next year as the tallest building south of Manhattan. A Bentley-branded residential tower is planned for Sunny Isles Beach in 2028, while Aman and Waldorf Astoria hotels are scheduled to open in Miami Beach in 2027. Miami International Airport is undergoing a $9 billion expansion. The Miami Grand Prix reflects the city’s expanding role in elite sports and hospitality, with invitation-only venues around Hard Rock Stadium serving prominent guests. PortMiami welcomed more than 8.5 million cruise passengers last year. MSC Cruises plans to homeport four ships in Miami this winter, and Windstar Cruises has relocated its headquarters from Seattle to Miami. Tourism, cruise activity, major events and real-estate development are increasingly converging across the city, strengthening Miami’s position with international visitors, businesses and luxury travelers.
