Vinicius Renewal Boosts Real Madrid as Replacement Costs Soar, Says Antonio Romero
Real Madrid announced last week that Vinicius Junior has agreed to extend his contract until 2032, according to Defensa Central. The news came alongside the club’s announcement of the signing of Yan Diomande. The Brazilian forward’s renewal follows more than a year of talks involving club president Florentino Pérez, executive José Ángel Sánchez, scout Juni Calafat and the player’s representatives at Roc Nation. The report says recent rumours had linked Vinicius with a possible move to Arsenal, with the English club allegedly preparing an offer of more than €100 million. However, Vinicius and Real Madrid will continue a relationship that began in 2018. The player reportedly communicated directly to Pérez that he did not intend to leave the club. Speaking on Cadena SER’s programme *El Larguero*, commentator Antonio Romero described the extension as positive for Madrid. He said it would be difficult for the club to find a player of Vinicius’s quality in the market at a price it could afford after its recent transfer spending. Romero also noted that negotiations had at times become tense and said Vinicius must maintain his status as a leading player. Romero added that Vinicius had not produced the same decisive level over the previous season and a half, but highlighted him, alongside Thibaut Courtois, as a key figure in Madrid’s last two Champions League victories. The report states that Vinicius has played 375 official matches, scored 128 goals and won 14 trophies for the club. For Madrid, the renewal is relevant because it keeps an established, highly successful player tied to the club as it develops its project around Kylian Mbappé and new summer additions.
