Madrid is expected to record €19 billion in tourist spending and welcome 9.5 million international visitors by the end of 2026, according to regional government estimates. Officials project a €3 billion economic impact across the region from major cultural and sporting events, some of which are still under way. Recorded figures show international arrivals rose 9.6% in the first seven months of 2026, while visitors spent more than €11.6 billion, up 10.7% from the same period in 2025. Between June and August, Madrid hotels hosted 3.4 million guests, 55% of them from abroad. The Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix, held at Madrid’s Madring circuit from September 11 to 13, brought the sport back to the region after more than four decades. Hotels averaged 85% occupancy during the event, rising to 90% on Saturday. On November 8, the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals are scheduled to meet at the Santiago Bernabéu for Madrid’s second NFL game. Concerts have also drawn large crowds. Bad Bunny played ten Madrid shows between late May and mid-June, and Shakira is halfway through a twelve-concert run at a temporary venue in Villaverde. Regional officials expect about 600,000 people to attend Shakira’s shows in total and estimate their economic impact at nearly €150 million, particularly through hotels, restaurants, transport, shopping and leisure.
