Madrid Adds Sports and Mexican Cuisine to Hispanidad 2026 Programme

Madrid’s Hispanidad 2026 programme will include a 10-kilometre race and a Mexican food festival, both centred on Puente del Rey in Madrid Río. The regional government announced them as part of its celebration of the language and cultural ties shared by Spanish-speaking countries. Madrid corre en español starts at 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 11. The route begins and ends at Puente del Rey and passes Puerta de San Vicente, Príncipe Pío, Parque del Oeste, Calle Princesa and Plaza de España. A free children’s race will have distances adapted to different ages. Runners will represent countries including Peru, Colombia, Bolivia and Ecuador. Performances will feature cumbia, son, flamenco and mariachi music, drawing on the cultures taking part. Organisers also plan to use an app to invite the 21 countries that share the Spanish language to join the celebration. The Agave y Maíz festival runs from October 9 to 12 at Puente del Rey. Its 14 stalls will offer tastings of Mexican cuisine endorsed by the Sello Copil, awarded by Fundación Casa de México en España and the Mexican Academy of Gastronomy. Across the four days, the festival will also have live music, folk art, family activities, cocktails and a selection of spirits, with awards for the best taco, cocktail and tostada.
