Madrid Corre en Español Combines Running and Mexican Food for Hispanidad

Runners, music and Mexican food will gather around Puente del Rey in Madrid Río during MadBlue River Fest, from October 9 to 12. Part of the region’s Hispanidad 2026 programme celebrating cultural ties among Spanish-speaking countries, the festival includes Madrid Corre en Español, a 10-kilometre race starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 11. The route begins and ends at Puente del Rey and passes Puerta de San Vicente, Príncipe Pío, Parque del Oeste, Calle Princesa and Plaza de España. Olympic marathon runner Azucena Díaz and athlete Alejandro Jiménez, known as El Balilla, are among those expected to take part. Entry costs €14; a separate children’s race is free. Cumbia, flamenco, mariachis and other performances will accompany the event. Representatives of Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, Equatorial Guinea and Ecuador are expected, while people in Spanish-speaking countries can join remotely through an app. The Agave y Maíz Mexican Festival will run alongside the race for all four days, with 14 food stands, live music, folk art and family activities. Zapopan, in the Mexican state of Jalisco, is the guest city. Visitors can try Mexican dishes, cocktails and spirits, and awards will recognise the best taco, cocktail and tostada. Ten restaurants holding the Sello Copil distinction will cook outdoors at Madrid Río; admission to the food festival is free.
