Madrid Autumn Festival 2026: Guide to the 44th Edition
Madrid is preparing for the 44th edition of its Autumn Festival, an international performing arts event centred on theatre, contemporary dance and multidisciplinary work. The programme is presented as a platform for avant-garde creation and cross-cultural exchange, bringing together artistic projects from different countries and traditions. Performances will be spread across major cultural venues in Madrid and the surrounding region. Hosts include Teatros del Canal, Conde Duque Contemporary Culture Centre, Teatro de La Abadía, Réplika Teatro, Sala Cuarta Pared and Teatro Pradillo, as well as Teatro Auditorio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial and Teatro del Bosque in Móstoles. This regional format is intended to extend access beyond a single central venue. Recent editions have moved towards more defined thematic approaches, with greater attention to particular cultural geographies and transnational influences. While maintaining its focus on accessibility and decentralisation, the festival seeks to connect Madrid’s local artistic traditions with broader international movements. It also provides a meeting point for directors, choreographers, producers, curators and critics, with collaborations between local institutions and visiting companies often emerging during the event. Visitors are advised to check official programme and ticket information in advance, as several venues have limited capacity. Public transport links connect the main urban theatres with the suburban and regional auditoriums hosting performances.
