United Opens New Houston Airport Concourse, Boosting City Break Potential

United Airlines opened a new Terminal B North Concourse at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport on October 22, 2026. Part of a $2.6 billion redevelopment, it gives the airline more flexibility to accommodate larger aircraft and add seats on busy routes. United serves 65 international destinations from Houston, including 57 in Latin America and the Caribbean. That network could encourage connecting passengers to spend time in the city. United has not announced a dedicated stopover program. Houston First reported 90.1 million visitors to the Houston metropolitan area in 2025, including about three million international visitors, while regional travel spending reached $16.2 billion. Those wider-area figures cannot be attributed to United’s terminal investment or taken as evidence that connecting passengers are extending their trips. Missions Houston First announced in October to London and Mexico City targeted travel advisers, journalists and business contacts, highlighting Houston’s food, culture, hotels and space heritage. They aimed to build demand; no airline layover package was launched. Turning a connection into a city visit would require clear information on prices, transport, baggage and flight changes. The new concourse does not mark the reopening of all Terminal B. Until its lobby opens in a later phase, Terminal B passengers must check in and clear security through Terminal C.
