Chicago Family Events This Weekend: Fall Festivals, Oktoberfest and Pumpkin Fun
Chicago families have a wide range of options for the Sept. 18-20 weekend, with fall festivals, art, music, seasonal activities and hands-on events across the city and suburbs. Activities include carnival rides, pumpkin patches, hayrides, crafts, character experiences, farm animals and free community gatherings. In Chicago, the Magnificent Mile Art Fest runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday along North Michigan Avenue. The free outdoor event will feature original work by 60 juried artists, including jewelry, fashion, glass art, paintings and photography. On Saturday, Fall Fest on the Riverwalk will bring hayrides on the river, a pumpkin patch, apple cider donuts, games, live music and kid-friendly drinks to the Chicago Riverwalk. The Friendship Center’s Games for Good, also on Saturday, combines games and family activities with fundraising to fight hunger. Families can take part in challenges, raffles and children’s activities. Tickets are free for children 2 and under, while prices range from $20 for ages 3-12 to $40 for those 12 and older. Jack’s Pumpkin Pop-Up offers an all-ages outdoor fall experience Saturday and Sunday at 1265 W. Le Moyne St. Visitors can explore thousands of pumpkins, navigate a corn maze, play carnival games, take seasonal photos and buy food and handcrafted mocktails.
