Torrance Temple Hosts Jai Ho 2026 for India’s Independence Day
Torrance’s Sri Panchamukha Hanuman Temple hosted Jai Ho 2026, its fourth annual local celebration of India’s Independence Day. Residents, community leaders and representatives of the Indian Consulate gathered for a day of culture, entertainment and fellowship. The celebration followed the City of Torrance’s recent proclamation recognizing August 15 as India Independence Day in the city. Mayor Sharon Kalani attended with Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce President Donna Duperron and Consul Kulwant Singh of the Consulate General of India in Los Angeles. More than 350 participants took the large outdoor stage for music, dance, fashion, food and entertainment. A fashion show featured traditional clothing from different parts of India, and Kalani joined the presentation in traditional Indian attire. The audience also watched “Salute,” a cultural performance blending dance, acting and storytelling to honor people who sacrificed for freedom and peace in India and elsewhere. Jai Ho 2026 presented Youth Impact Awards to young individuals and an Indian Army Veteran Award recognizing a veteran’s service and sacrifice. More than 30 vendor booths joined food, raffle giveaways, popcorn and cotton candy around the event grounds, while a large obstacle course kept children active throughout the day.
