Volunteering: Your Skills Are More Valuable Than You Think

Just read an article about starting to volunteer, and it really struck a chord. The piece highlighted how many of us underestimate our own skills, thinking we need specific expertise to contribute. In reality, compassion and reliability are the most valuable assets. It's easy to assume that volunteering requires a huge time commitment or specialized skills, but that's not the case. There are flexible roles to fit all interests and skill sets. The article also mentioned that volunteering can lead to reduced mortality and increased functioning, as well as less tangible benefits like increased quality of life, pride, empowerment, motivation, social support, and sense of community. This has inspired me to look into local opportunities where I can make a difference. If you've been on the fence about volunteering, maybe now's the time to take that first step.
