Recognizing the Unseen: 2.1 Billion Volunteers Worldwide
Just came across the 2026 State of the World's Volunteerism Report, and the numbers are staggering. Over 2.1 billion people—about a third of the global working-age population—volunteer monthly. It's eye-opening to see how much of this effort is informal, with community-led initiatives playing a huge role. Yet, so much of this work goes unrecognized in official stats. The report introduces the Global Index of Volunteer Engagement (GIVE) to better measure and appreciate these contributions. It's about time we give volunteers the recognition they deserve.
