Mint Sustainability Summit: Net zero’s next phase demands deeper changes across supply chains
At the Mint Sustainability Summit 2026, industry leaders emphasized that achieving net zero requires a profound transformation in how businesses approach sustainability. Rather than merely adhering to compliance, companies must integrate sustainable practices throughout their supply chains, product designs, and partnerships. The discussion highlighted that the initial, easier steps toward decarbonization are largely exhausted, pushing businesses to seek deeper, more innovative solutions. Central to this evolution is the concept of circular economy, which focuses on designing products and materials for reuse, repair, and recycling. Currently, only about 7% of global material consumption is circular, a decline from 9% in 2018. This statistic underscores the urgent need for businesses to rethink their operations and adopt practices that keep resources in circulation for as long as possible. As Masood Mallick from Re Sustainability Ltd. pointed out, sustainability is now critical for business continuity. Furthermore, the summit highlighted that fostering partnerships rather than viewing sustainability as a transactional obligation can lead to significant long-term benefits. By focusing on total cost of ownership and building customer trust, companies can create lasting value.
