Several DC Comics characters were considered for live-action television series that were canceled or stalled before reaching viewers. In 2021, Michael B. Jordan was attached to produce an HBO Max limited series centered on Val-Zod, the Earth-2 Kryptonian who becomes Superman after Clark Kent’s apparent death. Jordan reportedly departed because of scheduling, and a separate Black Superman film from J.J. Abrams also did not materialize. Eric Kripke developed Deadman for The CW in 2011. The spirit of murdered trapeze artist Boston Brand saw the project fade after *Arrow* launched, and the character has remained largely in animated DC productions, including the two recent *Justice League Dark* films. A live-action *Static Shock* series was considered in 2014 with Reginald Hudlin and Geoff Johns involved, though no substantial update appeared after 2015. *Smallville* producers also explored a Justice League spin-off led by Justin Hartley’s Green Arrow and focused on sheltering young metahumans. In 2011, David E. Kelley attempted a modern NBC reboot of *Wonder Woman*, following Lynda Carter’s 1975 television series.
