New York City Holiday Season: Shows, Attractions and New Openings
New York’s late-year calendar runs from autumn color to holiday celebrations across the five boroughs. Leaves change in Central Park, Brooklyn’s Prospect Park and larger green spaces in the Bronx and Staten Island. At Hudson Yards, The Edge has added an indoor experience of mirrors, projections, lighting and sound leading to its skyline-viewing terrace. Harlem Holiday Lights brings illuminated floats, music and performances to the neighborhood between 116th and 135th Streets on November 17. Fifth Avenue’s holiday decorations and interactive installations begin November 20. Thanksgiving falls on November 26, when the 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is planned to carry 100 helium balloons, performers and floats from Central Park West to Herald Square. The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting follows on the first Wednesday after Thanksgiving. The Radio City Rockettes have 230 performances of *Christmas Spectacular* scheduled from November 4 through January 4, 2027. The New York City Ballet performs George Balanchine’s *The Nutcracker* from November 27 to January 3; December also brings New York Philharmonic concerts and Mozart’s *The Magic Flute* at the Met Opera. On New Year’s Eve, crowds gather in Times Square for the midnight ball drop and confetti. Since last summer, visitors have also been able to see the ball daily through an interactive experience that includes access to the Skywalk’s 360-degree panoramic terrace.
