Fashion Executive’s Guide to New York Climate Week: Key Themes and Events
New York Climate Week will convene fashion executives, activists, celebrities, policymakers and investors through a programme of more than 1,000 official events, alongside a wide range of private gatherings. Following New York Fashion Week, the agenda will extend fashion’s conversations into energy, food and finance, bringing the sector into contact with leaders beyond its usual circles. The week will focus on moving sustainability efforts from pilots toward broader changes in sourcing, materials and business models. Executives face increasing pressure to demonstrate how regenerative agriculture, alternative materials, decarbonisation and textile recycling can reinforce supply chains while creating long-term value. Speakers are also expected to address the financial cost of inaction as extreme heat, wildfires and other climate disruptions alter fashion production worldwide. Closed-door, invitation-only sessions will host many of the discussions, creating space for more candid exchanges. Rachel Kibbe of American Circular Textiles advises executives to be selective rather than attempting every panel, while climate advocate Sophia Li says fashion needs a stronger understanding of shifts affecting other sectors. Water and nature finance will take centre stage at the Nat Gala on Sunday, September 20, at Halo 28. Under the theme “water is life,” guests are encouraged to wear clothing that reduces water use, including regenerative materials, lower-impact dyes, pre-owned pieces or rentals. The gala will raise funds for ocean and water-focused conservation groups, and its afterparty will support a new coral garden in Tahiti.
