After a week of record-breaking heat, Chicago’s weekend plans are turning toward fall. Open House Chicago returns Saturday and Sunday with free, behind-the-scenes access to more than 200 sites across the city, including places normally closed to the public. The Chicago International Film Festival continues at theaters around town, with screenings through Oct. 25. In Bronzeville, Dani Rochelle-Smith’s free photography exhibition “Love Is On The Green Line” follows the train’s route through neighborhoods including Englewood, Woodlawn, Garfield Park and Austin. Humboldt Park’s UrbanTheater Company has a limited run of “Black Latina,” a play about navigating Black and Latina identities in the United States. The Chicago Fair Trade Museum in Uptown is hosting a weekend clothing swap; general admission is $10. The Red Line Jazz Festival takes place Friday at the Harris Theater, closing a five-month project that brought performances and cultural programming to CTA stations. Saturday morning brings an East Garfield Park cleanup near Lake Street and Talman Avenue. For Halloween plans, Ridge Park has a free Friday screening of “Hocus Pocus,” while Wicker Park’s Saturday celebration includes a costume parade and dog costume contest. Families can trick-or-treat, join a scavenger hunt and ride the carousel for free at Lincoln Park Zoo’s free Spooky Zoo event Saturday.
