Whitchurch's gnome-town heroes deliver planters to high street
In the charming town of Whitchurch, a delightful initiative called Operation Gnome is bringing a splash of color and community spirit to the high street. Volunteers, dressed as whimsical garden gnomes, have been busy delivering vibrant flower planters to local shopfronts. This heartwarming project aims to attract more business and tourism to the town, affectionately known as "gnome-town" in Shropshire. Led by the Heart of Whitchurch voluntary group and spearheaded by town councillor Sue Sealy, also known as "Chief Gnome," the initiative seeks to create a welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors alike. Sealy envisions a happy place where people can shop, work, and live harmoniously. The project is part of the town's preparations for the Heart of England in Bloom competition, which highlights community gardening efforts. In recent weeks, the gnome volunteers have successfully delivered 39 planters filled mostly with perennials, generously donated by local residents. This collaborative effort not only beautifies the town but also fosters a sense of community pride and engagement, making Whitchurch a more inviting destination for all.
