The inaugural World Diaspora Friendship Games brought together Croats from every Continent and laid the foundations for

The inaugural World Diaspora Friendship Games, held from July 16 to 20, 2026, in Split and Milna on the island of Brač, marked a significant milestone in promoting Croatian unity. This unique event brought together Croats from over 35 countries, along with their descendants and friends, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and cultural exchange. Sports Director Steve Ravić emphasized that the Games transcended mere competition, focusing on inclusivity and the importance of connecting people from diverse backgrounds. Initiated by the American Croatian Congress and supported by numerous organizations, the Games aimed to create a lasting bond between Croatia and its diaspora through sports, culture, and education. Nada Pritišanac Matulich, the driving force behind the event, highlighted the value of friendships and connections over material success, showcasing the participation of elite athletes, recreational competitors, and individuals with disabilities. The opening ceremony, held at the Meštrović Gallery, was a grand affair attended by dignitaries and celebrated athletes, including Olympic champion Matea Jelić. The event not only celebrated sports but also underscored the enduring strength of Croatian unity, setting the stage for future Games, with the next scheduled for Australia in 2027.
