Santa Monica Planetarium August Shows to Feature Mars Rover, Great Observatories and Eclipses

The Santa Monica College Planetarium is set to host a series of engaging shows this August, focusing on the wonders of space and current missions. These live-hosted programs aim to educate and inspire audiences about the cosmos, featuring topics such as Mars exploration, space telescopes, and solar phenomena. The Friday night shows commence at 6 p.m. with “The Night Sky Show,” followed by a featured topic at 7 p.m., while a family matinee will take place on Sundays. Each show runs approximately 40 minutes and includes a question-and-answer session with Planetarium Lecturer Sarah Vincent, allowing for an interactive experience. The lineup includes exciting presentations like “Mission Close-up: Curiosity,” which delves into the Mars rover's journey, and “The Great Observatories,” highlighting the significant contributions of space-based telescopes like Hubble. Additionally, the program will prepare attendees for the upcoming partial lunar eclipse and explore the unique properties of the sun in “Solar System Survey: Sun.” With free parking available and affordable ticket prices, the planetarium offers an accessible opportunity for families and space enthusiasts to connect with the universe.
