India is on the brink of a transformative infrastructure revolution, one that prioritizes resilience over mere construction. To ensure that critical infrastructure can withstand simultaneous disruptions, India needs a National Infrastructure Stress Test (NIST). This framework would periodically evaluate the resilience of interconnected systems, moving beyond traditional assessments that focus solely on individual assets. The recent challenges posed by extreme weather events and increased electricity demand highlight the urgency of this initiative. As India aspires to become the world's third-largest economy, resilience must be an explicit national objective. The current governance structure, while improved, still operates within sectoral silos, which is inadequate in an interconnected economy.
