Filmmaker Sumathy Ram champions global collaboration through music and storytelling

Filmmaker and producer Sumathy Ram is a passionate advocate for global collaboration through music and storytelling. Based in Texas, she views music as a universal language that transcends borders, cultures, and generations. With a diverse background in filmmaking, lyric writing, poetry, and music production, Sumathy believes that all creative endeavors ultimately aim to express ideas about unity, diversity, and emotional well-being. Her collaborations with notable figures like Grammy Award-winning composer Ricky Kej and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kailash Satyarthi reinforce her conviction that music can drive social transformation and bring joy to communities. Sumathy's work spans over 40 countries, exemplified by her project "Gandhi: Mantras of Compassion," which united over 230 musicians worldwide. Her latest documentary venture, "Remains of a Day: Grace at Ground Zero," marks the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and focuses on healing and resilience. Alongside this, she is also developing an original Symphonic Cantata titled "United We Stand Tall," honoring the lives lost in the tragedy. Identifying as a global storyteller, Sumathy embraces her identity beyond national boundaries. Her long-term project, "Lajjawati," an epic musical that intertwines themes of desire and destiny, reflects her commitment to cross-cultural collaboration. She envisions a future where storytelling thrives through collective efforts, fostering new conversations and honoring diverse narratives.
