1 arrested after allegedly trying to disarm officer in downtown Colorado Springs fight
A man was arrested after an early-morning fight outside a downtown Colorado Springs nightclub, where police say he allegedly tried to take an officer’s firearm during a struggle. According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, the fight began around 2 a.m. outside a club in the 100 block of Tejon Street. Officers were attempting to break up the disturbance and detain the people involved when a bystander allegedly shoved an officer who was working to keep the crowd away from the initial fight. Police said the man was taken to the ground after the alleged shove and resisted the officer who was trying to detain him. During the struggle, CSPD said, he grabbed and pulled at the officer’s holstered handgun. The officer was able to keep control of the weapon. The suspect was identified by police as 22-year-old Arkehl Beauford. He was arrested and booked into the El Paso County jail on a charge of criminal attempt to disarm a peace officer. The case is relevant to Colorado Springs because it involves a confrontation in the city’s downtown entertainment area and highlights the risks officers can face while responding to crowded late-night disturbances.
