CCTV image released after racially aggravated assault in Canterbury city centre
Kent Police have released a CCTV image after a man in his 20s was injured in what officers are treating as a racially aggravated assault in Canterbury city centre. Police were called at about 6.45pm on Wednesday, July 15. The victim had been walking along Northgate when he noticed an unknown man travelling in the same direction. Both men then turned into Broad Street. It was reported that the unknown man made comments about the victim before assaulting him. The suspect then left towards St Gregory’s Road. The victim was taken to hospital with a head injury and was later discharged. Investigators say they have completed several lines of enquiry and obtained CCTV footage of a man they want to speak to, as he may have important information. Police have not yet identified him and are asking anyone who recognises him, or who has relevant information, to get in touch with Kent Police, quoting reference 46/114970/26. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers. The appeal is relevant to Canterbury because it concerns an alleged racially aggravated attack in central streets used by residents and visitors. Public information could help police identify the person shown in the CCTV image and progress their investigation.
