Anthropic in Talks to Lease Major Data Center in Bastrop County
Anthropic PBC, the Silicon Valley company behind the Claude AI platform, is reportedly in talks to lease space at a major data center development in Bastrop County. The potential deal comes shortly after the company secured a large lease in nearby Milam County, signaling its growing infrastructure needs in Central Texas. According to the Austin Business Journal, the Bastrop County project could become another significant addition to the region’s fast-expanding data center landscape. Demand for large-scale computing capacity has accelerated as AI companies build and operate the systems required to train and run increasingly complex models. The development under discussion is described as massive, reflecting the scale of power, land and network connections needed for modern AI operations. Bastrop County has increasingly drawn attention from technology and infrastructure developers because of its location near Austin and access to the resources required for high-capacity facilities. Sources familiar with the discussions said Anthropic is not expected to pursue tax breaks for the project.
