Fighter Jet Parades Through Torrance Streets Ahead of 64th Annual Armed Forces Day Event
A fighter jet recently captured the attention of Southern California residents as it was transported through the streets of Torrance, escorted by police. This striking sight was part of the preparations for the 64th Annual City of Torrance Armed Forces Day celebration. The F-5 aircraft was moved from Torrance Airport to City Yard late Thursday night, where it will be showcased during the weekend festivities. The exhibit is set to open to the public at 10 a.m. on Friday, allowing visitors an early glimpse of the military hardware that will be featured. The Armed Forces Day celebration in Torrance is a cherished civic tradition that has been held since 1960. Originally initiated by then-Mayor Al Isen in collaboration with the Torrance Chamber of Commerce, the event was designed to honor U.S. service members. Over the years, it has evolved into one of the most prominent military celebrations in the nation and is recognized as the longest-running military parade in the United States. This year’s main parade is scheduled for Saturday at 1:30 p.m. along Torrance Boulevard, with expectations of drawing thousands of participants and spectators. The event regularly attracts up to 100,000 attendees and features around 8,000 parade participants, including military units, vehicles, and floats. In its early years, the celebration included fireworks, a parade, and a day filled with military displays. This year, attendees can take advantage of free shuttle services provided by Torrance Transit, with parking available at the Mary K. Giordano Transit Center. As the city gears up for this significant event, the community looks forward to honoring the brave men and women who serve in the armed forces.
