Swiss Re Names Benjamin Savill CEO for Australia & New Zealand in Sydney

Swiss Re, a prominent global reinsurer, has announced the appointment of Benjamin (Ben) Savill as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Australia and New Zealand, effective October 1, 2026, pending regulatory approvals. This significant leadership change will take place in Sydney, a vibrant hub for the insurance and reinsurance industries. Savill will succeed Trent Thomson, who has transitioned to become the Global Head of Specialty Reinsurance at Swiss Re earlier this year. With nearly three decades of experience in the insurance sector, Savill brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role. His most recent position was as CEO for the Pacific region at Guy Carpenter, a leading global risk and reinsurance specialist under Marsh McLennan. Before that, he served as the Chief Underwriting Officer for Bermuda at Convex Insurance for nearly four years. His extensive background also includes a tenure as CEO and Group Chief Underwriting Officer at Fidelis Insurance, and he began his career as an underwriter at Amlin plc in the United Kingdom in 1997, where he spent over 18 years. Urs Baertschi, CEO of Property & Casualty Reinsurance at Swiss Re, expressed confidence in Savill’s capabilities, highlighting his combination of executive leadership and technical expertise. Baertschi believes that Savill’s broad industry perspective will be instrumental in continuing to support clients and partners in the crucial Australian and New Zealand markets. As Savill prepares to take the helm, the Sydney office is poised for a new chapter under his leadership, promising to enhance the company's commitment to innovation and client service in the dynamic reinsurance landscape of the region.
