Stoke-on-Trent is set to celebrate its vibrant rave history as MC Ragga, a key figure from the late 1980s rave scene, prepares to mark his 60th birthday with a special event. The Longton Mega Rave will take place at the historic Aynsley Mill, promising to recreate the authentic atmosphere of the raves that once thrived in the area. Ragga, whose real name is Gary Oliver, expressed excitement about the reunion with fellow DJs, including Daz Willott, stating that this event would capture the essence of the early rave culture that flourished in Longton. The rave scene in Stoke-on-Trent emerged during a transformative period in music, where genres like acid house, indie, and garage converged. Ragga reminisced about the beginnings of this movement at a club called Introspective in 1988, where he and Willott worked tirelessly to build a following. The duo spent years promoting events and moving equipment, laying the groundwork for what would become a thriving rave culture. Ragga noted that Longton was the epicenter of this scene, strategically located between Birmingham and Manchester, making it an ideal spot for music lovers. The upcoming event is not just a nostalgic trip down memory lane; it features a lineup of talented artists, including Daba, Grade A, and MC Energy, alongside local DJs from Trax FM.
