Hotel Trame, a new boutique hotel nestled in Rome's historic Sant’Eustachio district, presents a unique blend of architectural innovation and historical preservation. Designed by Valeriano Boragina, the hotel transforms the traditional concept of a bed into a freestanding, multifunctional island, redefining the space within its beautifully restored palazzo on Via Monterone. The 760-square-meter main floor showcases coffered ceilings and intricate plaster moldings, which have been meticulously restored to highlight the building's rich history while accommodating modern functionality. The restoration process was carefully executed, with original elements like wooden ceilings and window frames being uncovered and enhanced through strategic lighting. This approach prioritizes the integrity of the historic architecture, ensuring that new furnishings complement rather than compete with the original design. Bathrooms, intentionally set lower than the rest of the rooms, feature contemporary materials that contrast with the historic shell, showcasing a confident dialogue between the old and the new. Each of the hotel’s 13 rooms, including suites and deluxe accommodations, boasts a unique floor plan, reflecting the building's historical character. Boragina’s design philosophy treats beds and sofas as standalone pieces, allowing them to serve as organizing elements within the space. This thoughtful arrangement fosters a harmonious balance between the building's storied past and its contemporary purpose, with bespoke furnishings that echo the elegance of the original architecture. Additionally, the project extends to a separate café, Slow, located at Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, which offers a communal space for guests and locals alike. With its inviting atmosphere and stunning views of the archaeological complex, Hotel Trame not only provides luxurious accommodations but also cultivates a sense of community, making it a remarkable addition to Rome's vibrant landscape.
