GL Group Makes History in Houston as First Azerbaijani Firm to Acquire US Oil and Gas Assets
In a significant development for both Azerbaijan and the U.S. energy sector, GL Group has made history by becoming the first Azerbaijani company to acquire upstream oil and gas assets in the United States. Announced in Houston, Texas, this acquisition involves four producing oil and gas fields near Midland, encompassing over 200 active wells. By assuming full operatorship of these assets, GL Group not only marks a milestone for Azerbaijan's private oil and gas sector but also establishes a foothold in one of the world's most vital energy regions. The acquired assets are situated within the Permian Basin, renowned as the largest oil-producing area in the U.S. and a key player in global oil and gas production. In 2025, the basin was responsible for nearly half of the total U.S. crude oil output, producing approximately 6.6 million barrels per day. Additionally, it contributed significantly to natural gas production, underscoring its importance in the energy landscape. For GL Group, operating in such a technically sophisticated and competitive environment represents a pivotal step in its international growth strategy. This acquisition is a culmination of over a year of meticulous planning, partnership development, and strategic evaluation.
