Designed by engineer George Washington Gale Ferris Jr., it was conceived as an American response to the Eiffel Tower, aiming to captivate visitors with its grandeur. Despite initial skepticism about its safety, Ferris secured funding and support, ultimately leading to the construction of this iconic structure. He faced numerous lawsuits related to debts incurred during the fair, and his health deteriorated due to typhoid fever, leading to his untimely death at the age of 37. Today, Ferris wheels continue to evolve, with modern iterations like the London Eye and the Singapore Flyer pushing the boundaries of height and design.
