WABAG Secures ₹250–600 Crore Order for Bengaluru Sewage Treatment Plants from BWSSB
WABAG, a Chennai-based water technology company, has recently secured a significant contract from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) for the development of two advanced wastewater treatment facilities in Bengaluru. This ‘Large’ order, valued between ₹250 crore and ₹600 crore, encompasses the Design, Build and Operate (DBO) of a 100 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and a 25 MLD Tertiary Treatment Plant (TTP) at Byramangala, along with a 60 MLD STP at Bellandur. This initiative marks a crucial step in addressing the city's pressing sewage management needs. The scope of the project includes comprehensive engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, along with the integration of biogas-based power generation. The STPs will utilize the Activated Sludge Process combined with a Biological Nutrient Removal system, while the Byramangala TTP will implement Ultrafiltration technology to ensure the treated water meets environmental standards for discharge into local water bodies. The entire engineering, procurement, and construction work is expected to be completed within 36 months, followed by a seven-year period dedicated to operations and maintenance. Bengaluru, known for its rapid urbanization, faces significant challenges related to wastewater management. These new facilities are designed to alleviate some of these issues while aligning with the city’s sustainability goals. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions and harnessing energy from biogas, the projects contribute to a circular economy, promoting environmentally friendly practices in the region. WABAG's stock has shown a remarkable performance, reflecting investor confidence in the company's capabilities. With shares trading at ₹2,076.20, up 4.27% from the previous close, the company has experienced a year-to-date increase of nearly 58% and over 305% in the past three years. This contract not only reinforces WABAG's position in the water treatment sector but also highlights the ongoing efforts to enhance Bengaluru's infrastructure for a sustainable future.
