Election Commission Extends Karnataka SIR by 10 Days, Weekend Camps Planned in Bengaluru
The Election Commission of India has announced an extension of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) enumeration phase in Karnataka by ten days, now set to conclude on August 8. This decision aims to assist the many voters who have struggled to locate their details in the 2002 electoral rolls. To facilitate this process, the Karnataka electoral office will organize special assistance camps every weekend, as stated by Chief Electoral Officer Anbuk Kumar. Originally scheduled to end on July 29, the revised timeline includes the publication of draft electoral rolls on August 17, with claims and objections accepted until September 16. During a recent review in various districts, including Tumakuru and Mysuru, Kumar emphasized the importance of submitting the enumeration forms correctly. Voters who cannot find their 2002 data are encouraged to attach relevant documents and submit their signed forms to the Booth Level Officer (BLO). However, he clarified that no corrections to personal details such as addresses or dates of birth will be processed during this enumeration phase. Instead, requests for changes can be made after the draft rolls are published. As of the latest update, 95.7% of the enumeration forms have been distributed across Karnataka, but Bengaluru has shown a slower progress rate. The digitization of filled forms in the city is notably low, with figures ranging from 5.6% to 9.1% across different BBMP regions. This lag highlights the need for increased efforts in the urban areas to ensure that all eligible voters are accounted for. For voters currently abroad or those who miss the SIR exercise, Kumar reassured that they can apply for inclusion using Form 6 after the draft rolls are published. This form is available both online and through BLOs, ensuring that young voters and others have the opportunity to register and participate in the electoral process.
