Bangalore Police Arrest Gang Luring Victims into Prostitution and Robbery
In a recent operation, the K.G. Halli police in Bengaluru apprehended a gang involved in luring individuals into prostitution and subsequently robbing them. The arrests were prompted by a complaint from a victim who, on July 16, responded to an online advertisement that promised sexual services. After establishing contact with the gang through the Locanto app, he was directed to a location in the HBR Layout area, where he encountered two women in an autorickshaw. Following negotiations for payment, the gang forcibly took his cash and mobile phone before fleeing the scene. The police acted swiftly upon receiving the complaint on July 17, launching an investigation that led to the arrest of 11 individuals linked to the gang. During the operation, authorities recovered two autorickshaws, four two-wheelers, 13 mobile phones, and cash believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes. The gang members confessed to bringing women from other states to Bengaluru, providing them with accommodation, and posting their photos on the Locanto app to attract potential customers. This troubling incident highlights the dangers associated with responding to online advertisements for illegal services. The police have urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from engaging with such posts on social media or classified websites. They emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious activities to local law enforcement or the Police Emergency Helpline to prevent further incidents.
