Xreal Launches Aura Smart Glasses in San Francisco, Featuring Android XR Technology
Xreal has officially launched its latest innovation, the Aura smart glasses, in San Francisco. Developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm, these lightweight augmented reality glasses are priced at a maximum of $1,500 before tax. Set to hit the market in autumn 2026, Aura will be available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, and select European markets, with Canada also included in the initial rollout. To encourage early adoption, Xreal is offering two reservation options: a $300 Founder Priority Pass, limited to 2,000 units, and a $100 deposit that converts into a $200 discount on the final purchase price. Previously known as Project Aura, the glasses operate on Google’s Android XR system and feature the Gemini artificial intelligence assistant, which enhances the user experience by providing contextual overlays. This integration allows for navigation prompts, weather updates, and access to standard Android applications through the Google Play Store, alongside XR-specific software. The Aura glasses are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite chipset, which boasts improved graphics, processing, and neural performance compared to its predecessor. Weighing less than 95 grams, Aura utilizes birdbath optics to offer a 70-degree field of view, a significant upgrade from the previous generation's 52 degrees. The device supports six degrees of freedom tracking, hand tracking, and multimodal AI interaction, aiming to create a seamless blend of augmented visuals with the real world. At launch, Aura will support a variety of applications in entertainment, gaming, and productivity, including immersive storytelling, collaborative games, and design tools. With over 100 XR-focused applications in development and ongoing software partnerships, Xreal envisions Aura as a pivotal step toward integrating extended reality experiences into daily life.
