Sunset District Updates: Tadaima Break-In, New Restaurant Openings, and Closures in Alameda
In the Inner Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco, the local dining scene is experiencing both challenges and new beginnings. Tadaima, a Japanese sando and matcha restaurant, has faced significant setbacks after being broken into twice since its opening in February. The most recent incident involved thieves shattering the storefront's glass door and stealing the safe and cash register. Owner J.L. expressed the need for enhanced security measures, such as an alarm system, while also noting the community's overwhelming support during these tough times. In response to the break-ins, Tadaima has temporarily stopped accepting cash payments, navigating a complex situation as local laws require businesses to do so. Meanwhile, the neighborhood is also witnessing the closure of Willow on the Green, a British-centric cheese shop that served as a comforting reminder of home for many during the pandemic. Owner Alex J. Sinclair cited changes in the community, including the closure of a nearby research center, as contributing factors to the shop's decline. Although Willow on the Green is closing, Sinclair remains active in the community and is exploring new projects, including his involvement with the Caledonian Club and the British Benevolent Society. On a brighter note, new establishments are emerging in the area. Welcome Coffee & Goods is set to open soon, promising to be a cozy spot for caffeine lovers. Additionally, Maggie & Mac’s has already made a splash with its French dip sandwiches, while Jandii, a new cafe, offers a minimalist menu of scones, matcha, and coffee. As the Inner Sunset adapts to these changes, the resilience and support of the community shine through, highlighting the vibrant spirit of this neighborhood.
