Chicago Architecture Center Celebrates 60 Years
The Chicago Architecture Center (CAC) is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2026, reflecting on its history and future role in shaping the city's architectural landscape. Renowned for its walking and boat tours, the CAC also serves as a connector among various stakeholders in Chicago's built environment. Originating in the mid-1960s with efforts to preserve the Glessner House, the center has since developed a robust docent program, with volunteers leading educational tours. CAC president Eleanor Esser Gorski emphasizes the center's evolving mission amid changing economic and political influences. A commemorative exhibit, “Currents: 60 Years of the Chicago Architecture Center,” is on display at their headquarters through May 1, 2026.
